Spring Fling Fundraiser!

The Bayview Glen P.S. School Council is excited to launch our annual fundraiser … Spring Fling!  Your child will be coming home today with information and a fundraising envelope outlining this year’s fundraising effort.  Make no mistake –our school’s commitment to fundraising supports our students.  Last year’s fundraising effort allowed us to purchase many things, including:
- 41 Chromebooks
- robotics kits
- 5 ipads
- technology resources
- indoor recess equipment
Your contributions make a genuine difference directly for our students!
The week of March 25, 2019 students will participate in a variety of Spring Fling activities culminating in a Spring Fling Dance and celebration on Friday, March 29th, hosted by Bounce Entertainment.  Our goal this year is for every student to raise a minimum of $25 in donations.  (Donations may be collected from family members, extended family members or friends; no door-to-door solicitation is permitted.)  For every $10 donated, students will be issued a ticket which they will place into a draw to win a prize.  The more money the student raises, the more tickets he or she accumulates giving them more chances to win!  In the interest of maximizing the number of winners, students are limited to winning only one prize each.  And we have some amazing prizes, including:
- A drone
- Nintendo Switch
- Lego kits
- Mastermind merchandise
- A karaoke machine
All items were chosen based on focus groups of primary and junior students.  As well, aside from the larger prizes that students can try to win, all non-winning tickets will be entered into a consolation draw for even more prizes –including official sports merchandise; gift cards from Glama Gals, Kids Kitchen, and Pizza Nova; passes to Hub Climbing, Air Riderz, Funtastic Forest, Splitsville Bowling, Museum of Illusions, Just Bounce, and Reptilia; vouchers for Battle Sports, Sportball, Joyride 150 and Playtopia; and much, much more!  The prizes are fantastic … and the money raised goes to the best cause of all, our students.
Please help the school and submit all cash and/or cheques inside your child’s Spring Fling donation envelope by Friday, March 8th.  We thank you for your generous support of the school!

Lunar New Year

This Tuesday, February 5th will be the Lunar New Year!

We welcome all those who celebrate the holiday to dress up in traditional New Year clothing, if they wish. We welcome all of our students to get into the spirit, even in the absence of traditional clothing, by dressing in red on Tuesday. The colour red is thought to symbolize good luck, so please help us usher in the Lunar New Year with some colourful good fortune!

Lion's Pride -- Don't Forget!!!

BGPS Lion’s Pride

Dear Parents and Guardians,

You may have already noticed the display case in our front foyer. This year, we are using it to present items of “pride” from all of our BGPS students.
On Monday January 21, 2019 students from our class will be sharing their items with the school. Students may choose to bring in an item such as a photograph of place they have travelled, a medal/certificate for an accomplishment, or an artifact to represent their heritage. The cabinet is locked, and all items will be returned in 3 weeks.

Please send what your child would like to put into the display case by
Monday January 21, 2019. As well, please have your child write a paragraph reflecting what he/she is bringing in, and why it is important to him/her.

Students should use the paragraph writing skills they have learned in class (i.e. a topic sentence, relevant and detailed information, and a concluding sentence). Students may choose to use some of the following sentence starters to help them write their paragraph:

This is my ________________.

I earned it by ________________________.

It is important to me because ________.

Thank you for your support in this school-wide initiative,

Mrs. Marni Longo
