Friday Odds and Ends...

Happy Friday Everyone!

A few odds and ends from this week...

Parent/Teacher Conferences and Learning Skills
Thank you to all of you who came in to visit our classroom and meet with me. All students completed a Self Assessment of their Learning Skills before Progress Reports were sent home. If you have not done so already, please take some time this weekend to review both the Self Assessment and Progress Reports and set goals with your child for the rest of Term 1. I ask that Self Assessments be sent back with your child by this Monday December 3. If you require more time with it, please send me an email or write me a note in your child's agenda. As well, if you could please return the brown Progress Report envelope we would greatly appreciate it -- we love to save trees!

And on that note... our students have been working hard to earn "For the Love of Learning Skills" tags throughout the last few weeks. They can earn these for anything you see in the Learning Skills Self Assessment -- helping a friend, taking the initiative to do something helpful around the classroom, standing up for a friend, trying something new, keeping their work space organized. Ask your child what they will do this week to earn a ticket!

Coding Workshop
Our class participated in a fabulous coding workshop on Tuesday! Katy, a Community Developer at Kids Code visited our class and taught us how to code and how to use Micro Bits. She even left us with a set so we can continue to use them at school. Thank you so much to our amazing parent volunteers who came in to assist. We couldn't have done it without you!

Math
Our Number Sense units, and most recent test came home this week. These can now be kept at home. We are more than halfway through our unit on Data Management. We have been collecting data, creating bar graphs and pictographs, and analyzing data. Next week, we will continue to do this, and we will also learn circle graphs, line plots, and we will begin our final assignment.

Upcoming Spirit Day
On December 12th we will have our second Spirit Day - Twin Day! Students can dress up as twins (or triplets!) with a friend.

A reminder that the calendar on our classroom blog is linked to our school calendar so you can see both classroom and school events.

Grade 3 EQAO
I know it's VERY early in the year, but... EQAO for grade 3 and 6 will take place from May 21st through June 3rd, 2019. A note will be sent home to all those participating in the New Year.

Have a wonderful weekend, and Happy Hanukkah to those who are celebrating!

Have a Great Weekend!

Happy Friday, everyone!

A few reminders for the upcoming week...

Library
As usual, we will be visiting the library on Day 2. That's this Monday! If you would like to take out new books please ensure you have returned any finished books from last week. If you are still reading a book you do not need to return it until you are finished reading.

Math Test
On Tuesday November 6th we will have a math test on Addition and Subtraction. All students brought home their black math folders in their Communication Bags.

Students can review all of the math sheets we have completed. As well, they should review math language that helps them figure out if the question is addition or subtraction.

Addition - total, together, altogether, in all, sum, etc.

Subtraction - difference, less than, more than, how many less, how many more, etc.

Scholastic
The new Scholastic Book Order was sent home today. You can order online through our class or by sending a cheque with the completed order form back to school. Orders will be due on Monday November 12, 2018.

Fall Dance
On Friday November 9th we will be having a Fall Dance. Admission is, of course, free, BUT, we do ask that all students bring in at least one non-perishable item to donate to our local food bank.

Happy Diwali!
Happy Diwali to all of those who are celebrating this coming week! If you celebrate Diwali at home please encourage your child to share some of your celebrations with the class. We would love to hear all about them!

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Longo
