School Bus Safety

Today our students learned about safety on the school bus. Please feel free to continue this discussion with your children at home this evening. This is important for all students, not just those who take the school bus on a regular basis.

You might ask your child questions such as:

1. What does evacuation mean? (To get off the bus as quickly and safely as possible)

2. Who decides if an emergency evacuation is needed? (Only the driver makes that decision, unless the driver is unavailable)

3. What are the possible emergency exits you can use? (There are 4 emergency exits: the front door of the bus, the rear door, the special window exits, and the escape hatch on the roof of the bus)

4. Who opens the exits? (The Driver, or designated assistants)

5. Who is the "Boss of the Bus"? (The Driver)

6. What is the most important thing to do in an emergency? (Stay calm, listen to all of the instructions provided by the Driver, and follow his or her lead)
